Jouvens Fondation (2018)

In late September, I traveled to Haiti with chef Paul Toussaint, of Agrikol to work with him on one of his projects. On our trip was also chef Jouvens Jean. He came to fulfill a mission. Jouvens got wind that ETFAG – Ecole Technique Frere Andre Guimond, located in La-Vallee-de-Jacmel was no longer…

I never have any interest to visit Dominican Republic because i know how they have been treated my people for numerous years especially in the batey. I’ve met some very good dominican citizens living in Haiti and in the US, but their government is up to no good. We as people of Haiti need to stand up together once and for all to stop that hatred. A lot of wealthy haitians have properties in DR and they treat them like god over there, but why can’t the poor haitians get some respect as well. Is it about money, interest or human dignity?ReplyCancel

My grand mother was born in 1917 in sto domingo, when she was 20yrs old or so in 1937 she gave birth to my mother in sto domingo. My great grand mother took escape on mules back to haiti to avoid death, over 30 000 dominican haitians did not make it. My family told us the story over, over, over and over again. 160 countries around the World do not give the nationality to the sons And day daughters of illegal immigrants. The Dominican constitution since 1929 has established that a person get the Dominican nationality when by the time he/she was born the parents were legal residents. Therefore if your parents are illegal residents you will have the nationality of your parents instead of the Dominican nationality.
Haiti and international groups are trying to solve part of Haiti’s problem by forcing the Dominican goverment to change their laws so that the Dominican Republic end up recognizing as Dominicans illegal immigrants.
It’s funny that Canada and probably the people
That are in these pictures have done little to solve Haiti’s issue or have shown a real concerned about the situation of Haiti, that after millions of dollars given to charities and other institutions, Haiti chaos and poverty hasn’t changed at all, cause most of the money end up in mafias. Is this was an honest campaign, they would have been protesting against that instead of protesting against another country that legally has all the rights to say or establish that an illegal immigrant is not Dominican. 160 other countries have the same position as ours but it seems that only the Dominican Republic is the “evil” one. Come on! Be honest or is this group another one of those that are fed with money from the Usaid and that, without this kind of silly public protest, wouldn’t be able to get anybody to support them with money?ReplyCancel

I dont understand why if we treat you so bad you are still here. I guess you are better in your own country. So stay there. You are very ungrateful people, that is why the world has abandoned you. We feel sorry for you, you have become a netion of beggars and you blame everybody for your situation. Get up against your poiltitians and in front of the extremely rich people that owns everything in haiti and be a better country. Why so much hate? If you keep this i foresee a confrontation in the near future. And we are not afraid of you. That is what you want? You want blood ? stop it. You live abroad in a safe place. If there is a war you are not going to be here. You are not going to die. Stop this. Why are you so interested in becoming Dominicans if we are so bad ? The only one denying nationality in this matter is you, your constitution says that all children born from haitian parents are haitians no matter where they are born. So this is your people.

Do you think that spreading hate is a solution? i dont think so. Be sure of one thing, we dont want a war, we are a epaceful nation, but if in the end all this that you are doing leads to a confrontation you will get it.ReplyCancel

It’s funny how you haitians talk shit about my country, but enjoy being there by just having children you can’t raise, by asking money on the street, being criminals, or just doing nothing productive or good. Haitians were killed by dominicans in 1937? How sweet, what about the abuses your goverment did between 1822-1844 and also your attempts to convert the island into your country again after our independence? Stop acting like a victim because you haitians know that my country is the one that have helped you the most. Seems like you forgot who was the first and last country to help you when they earthquake hit Haiti. And please, don’t say we threat you bad, because you are the ones who do not like us, you just want to come illegaly to my country to do bad things, so stop acting like we are the bad.ReplyCancel

  • Ja InformYourselves

Read, inform yourselves before doing a protest. ANY immigrant wether Haitian or not, have the same laws. Around 160 countries have the same rules do to their limited size. Countries are acting like ignorants such as Canada, having no interest in respecting the dominican constitution. The Dominican Republic as a sovereign country has made a decision for the benefit of their citizens. The 30,000 haitians killed was a terrible masacre commited by one of the most hated dictators of all times named Rafael Trujillo, which was assasinated in 1961 by dominicanas tired of the tiran. Ever since we searched for a true democracy, there’s never been an atrocity of that type. There actually exists rascisim in part of the dominicans, but also the haitians dislike dominicans and are racist in their own way. The decision was already implemented, any illegal immigrant who decides to have an child in the dominican territory has no right of demanding the child’s dominican documents. For my part I know its hard to understand for people who live in countries who relly on immigrants due to their territory, and haven’t lived in a small island but its vital for them to aknowledge the necesity for that law in the Dominican Republic.ReplyCancel

Let me tell you something: I have hatians friends that i respect a lot ( they deserve it).But all of this again Dominican Republic seems to me a REAL SABOTAGE.Let me explain ( without emotions, just logic):

1-The new migration sentence ( or law ) ist not just for Haitians, is for all FOREIGNERS around the world that are in Dominican Republic!
2-It is of public knowledge that some haitians commite people that was in the United Nations, one of then used a false identity.
3-This INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IS VERY SUSPICIOUS! IT IS LIKE SOME “ENTITIES” OUTSIDE HAVE A PLAN TO CAUSE SOMETHING IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.LET ME TELL YOU THAT SOME PEOPLE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC KNOW ABOUT THAT DRACONIAN SITUATION.ReplyCancel

Nice try, but they’re all lies. First no citizenship is being taken away. You can’t take away something that didn’t exist. That 1937 “massacre” you keep talking about never happened. The people that were trying to remove the dominican dictator saw what was happening in Europe and made that up because they wanted an international military invasion to remove Trujillo. When you’re going to accuse someone of genocide, have some evidence, but of course can’t because there is none.ReplyCancel

  • The Dominican Republic is ( 1844 ) the Haitian yoke of Haitian domination domino that for 22 years the island. With independence we take a machete to the Spanish part Haitian , when fleeing haitinaos retired murdered thousands of Dominicans in Moca and Santiago de los Caballeros , Haitians , vile soldiers, took the kids and threw the air, and lived with their bayonets. They burned both Santiago and Moca . Since then everything has been envious of Haitians who can not find the path of peace and prosperity , which not puedar the budu . The Dominican Republic is a country that follows the rule of law. The constitution of 1929, concerning nationality is clear. Dominicans follow a conditional jus soli. Nationality is adquired if you are born in the Dominican Republic, SUBJECT TO, at least one of the parents being a Dominican citizen or legal resident, in the county at the time of birth. This has been so since 1929, and it has simply been RATIFIED on all other Dominican constitutions since, including 2010’s constitution. There is no difference.

Therefore, you are Dominican, only (( IF )), at least one parent is Dominican or is a legal resident.

On the other hand, Haiti follows jus sanguinis, where nationality is based on the person blood ties.
Meaning, it does not matter where you are born, you are still Haitian if at least one parent is a Haitian National.

These positions were made aware, and both countries agree upon it,
during the peace talks of 1938 in Washington D.C., between the parties.

If a Haitian crosses the border illegally, and has offspring in the Dominican Republic,
they are not Dominicans, by the rule of law. Neither are the grand children of the illegal perpetrators.

Furthermore, they are Haitians nationals, for Haitian constitution is based on jus sanguinis.

But, the Haitian government turns a blind eye, and makes the allegation that they are not Haitians,
because they cannot prove to be of Haitian ancestry.

How are Haitians and their offspring going to prove their origins, if the Haitian government did not provide their parents with the a birth certificate in Haiti ? The simplest of legal documentation.

Some say that many Haitian offspring got Dominican documents, and were later taken from them. According to responsible sources, they got Dominican documents fraudulently, by bribing a government official, or using birth certificate of a dead Dominican, and so on. Nevertheless, they cannot be taken away what they never had. They were never Dominican citizens, in the first place, even if they were given Dominican documents by error. Furthermore they are not stateless, because they are Haitians by jus sanguinis. Haitian offspring need to get documents at the Haitian institutions. They are not Dominicans.

Most Haitians can never get Dominican legal residency, because the Haitian government does not provide the simplest of documents for its citizens. Haitians by the millions, don’t have a birth certificate, nor a personal Identification. Most Haitians have no legal status, they simply don’t legally exist within Haiti, nor do they legally exist outside of Haiti when they migrate.

The Haitian government is the one creating this dilemma, for their own people, and neighboring countries, according to some it is used for “social stratification control”, and what some social scientist call, “social dumping”.

This Haitian dilemma is not exclusive of the Dominican Republic.
There are also over 50, 000 Haitians offspring in the Bahamas with the same situation.
Also, in the UK commonwealth of Turks and Caicos.
There are about 300,000 in the same situation even in Cuba.

The Dominican Republic is being unjustly accused, and singled out. But why ?

The constitutional rule of 1929, is affecting the offspring of people from 102 nationalities that live in the Dominican Republic and the government is trying to clear the situation out. Yet, only Haitians are protesting. Again, why ?

There is more than a million illegal Haitians living and roaming freely, in the Dominican Republic.Equal to more than 10% of the population. In small poor country.

The Dominican government is spending 125 million a year,
on free Health Care and education for Haitians, living in the Dominican Republic.
Really outrageous for such a poor and small country.

In the USA there is an estimate of 11 million illegals, and there is constant outcry,
and constant debate about this about this in congress.
The USA a vast nation with a huge territory and resources.
Imagine if the USA had 31 million illegals, about 10% of US population roaming around illegally.
That would certainly turn to more than an outcry.

Why then is the Dominican Republic, being used as the escape goat ??

Many international scholars, scientists, politicians, and intellectuals,
suspect that there is a conspiracy against the Dominican Republic,
orchestrated by of the US, Canada, UK and France, with the macabre intention of a fusion in the island, and Haitian officials are being used as the instruments.
However the differences in language, culture, race, religion, and history, are enormous.
Something practically impossible due to the abysmal differences, and Dominicans abhor the fusion idea.

Many, take their suspicion even further,
and speculate that the fusion idea has to do with,
extreme Oil reserves and Gold deposits on both sides of the island.

Further investigations should be made on the part of sincere, unbiased, inquiring minds !ReplyCancel
